Spent the day buried in correspondence from the 1800s, the kind of diplomatic letters that manage to be both extremely polite and extremely threatening in the same paragraph, a skill British administrators apparently perfected long before modern press offices existed.
Broke for lunch to catch up on current royal family news, which, remarkably, still uses some of the same diplomatic phrasing. Some things, it seems, never really update their vocabulary.
Evening was spent finishing a chapter draft, coffee going cold beside it, the way it always does when the research gets interesting.
