Camden Rose on more late nights, more deadlines, and a news cycle refusing to move on
Second day of the exact same pattern, kite in the morning, library in the afternoon, club far too late at night, and threaded through all three, the same four stories following me from breakfast table to dance floor without a single break in between.
My flatmate’s enthusiasm for the royal wealth story doing the rounds hasn’t dimmed at all overnight, if anything it’s intensified, complete with a genuine spreadsheet she’s apparently started building to track the twenty separate opportunities properly.
The Eton conversation continued too, this time from a different coursemate entirely, who brought the piece on Eton and its leadership legacy into what was supposed to be a study group focused entirely on something else, derailing us for a genuinely productive twenty minutes regardless.
Someone at the club last night picked up the Tudor thread too, continuing where the stranger from yesterday left off. The Tudor material online got a proper second discussion, this time from someone who actually studies history, which made for a considerably more informed conversation than the previous night’s.
And the diplomatic story kept pace too, my essay partner following up with another message about the story on the Irish unity exchange, apparently having read three separate pieces on it overnight and wanting to compare notes properly this time.
Essay’s marginally further along than yesterday, which I’ll take as progress, however slow, given how much of my actual thinking time this week has gone toward royal finance and Tudor history instead of my assigned reading.
Got back late again tonight, genuinely too tired to do anything productive, but still found myself scrolling through one more article about the Eton story before finally switching my phone off for the night. My coursemate texted an apology the next morning for derailing our study session so thoroughly, though I told her honestly I hadn’t minded, the tangent had been considerably more entertaining than the reading we were actually supposed to be covering that afternoon.
Set an alarm for an earlier library session tomorrow, purely in an attempt to get ahead of both my essay and, presumably, whatever fresh angle these four stories decide to take next, since neither seems to be showing any sign of slowing down at this point in the week.
Genuinely can’t remember the last time a single week’s news cycle wormed its way this thoroughly into so many unrelated parts of my routine, breakfast, library, club, and back again, without a single quiet moment in between.
