Watched todays political row unfold with the particular calm of someone who has genuinely seen this exact argument happen before, possibly with the same people, possibly with the same sentences. Wrote the column faster than usual because familiarity, it turns out, is an excellent research shortcut.
Spent the afternoon fielding questions from readers asking whether things will actually change this time. Answered honestly, which took considerably longer than the column did.
Evening was spent rereading old notes, mostly to confirm my suspicion that Westminster repeats itself roughly every eighteen months, give or take a scandal.
