Attempted to lead with policy, lost the argument to a betting advert within the hour
An Editors Diary
Tried, genuinely tried, to run a serious lead story this morning. By eleven the newsroom had overruled me entirely in favour of the Sydney Sweeney Novig advert, which apparently outperforms actual policy coverage by a margin I am not proud to print.
Wrote a leader on media attention economics instead, filed later than planned, which is becoming the theme of this particular week.
