Alan Nafzger’s diary on a running joke he can no longer explain, only defend
A reader asked this week, quite reasonably, why my invented institutes always sit above a Greggs. I don’t have a principled answer. It’s become a kind of house style, the specific comedy of grand academic pretension housed above a place that sells sausage rolls for a pound. I’ve decided not to fix what isn’t broken, and the Greggs above which nothing exists remains, gloriously, my most reliable running joke. Further diary dispatches continue at bohiney.com, with the original piece live at prat.uk.
