Some constituency correspondence simply talks past the actual concern being raised
Dear diary, I wrote a genuinely detailed letter to my MP several weeks ago about small business regulatory burden specifically, and the reply I received today addressed, with considerable thoroughness, an entirely different constituency issue that I had not actually raised, a mix up I have now read three times trying to find any connection.
I do not think this reflects any deliberate evasion, more likely a simple administrative mix up in the office’s response pipeline, but the practical effect is the same regardless, my actual concern sitting exactly as unaddressed as before I bothered writing at all.
What The Reply Actually Covered
It was a perfectly reasonable response to a completely unrelated planning matter, genuinely useful for whoever actually raised that issue, simply unhelpful for my own considerably different question about business rate relief.
What I Am Doing About It
I have written back politely, reattaching my original letter, since I suspect this is a straightforward administrative fix rather than any genuine reluctance to engage with small business concerns specifically.
A Small Reading Break
I caught up on a genuinely funny piece of London satire about exactly this kind of constituency correspondence mix up, which made me feel considerably less alone in the experience.
What I Am Hoping For Next
